Happy St David’s Day

1st March – our national saint’s day here in Wales. St David’s Day, or Dydd Gwyl Dewi if you want to get all patriotic about it as many of us are wont to do. I’m not, I’m slightly ashamed to admit, sporting a daffodil on my collar, but I do have a jug of the national blooms on my desk.

More Financial Aid for Wales

Maybe I’m going out on a limb here, but this latest tranche of European financial aid for Wales, to the tune of £2bn, makes me feel a little bit sad.

Back in 2000 there was some excitement when we, as a country, qualified for Objective One funding. Make the most of it, we were told, once it’s gone, it’s gone and that’ll be that.
